Immanuel is an “it-takes-a-whole-village” kind of community. We treasure our children.
Welcoming
We welcome infants and children as participants in our worship, and encourage you to sit forward so that your children are able to see and participate. Children’s bulletins and worship kits are available from the ushers. We involve children in worship in many and various ways.
Communion
Children are welcome to receive communion as early as they can drink a little juice. The pastor will provide age-appropriate communion instruction to parents and families. When children are participants in communion they naturally learn and experience that God loves everyone, that all are welcome, that there is a connection between the communion table and the food bank and so on. Children grow in their understanding of communion, just as the rest of us do . . . throughout our whole lives.
Children’s Church
“Children’s Church” during worship is provided for children age preschool through 5th grade during the school year. Children leave the worship space during the lessons and sermon time and return for prayers, peace, communion and sending. During this time children hear a biblical story and learn the story through art, drama and sharing. Children will focus on one of the same biblical stories parents will be hearing in the worship space. Our high schoolers participate in teaching the little ones, alongside gifted adult teachers.
